For contemporary thinkers in both the physical sciences and theology, creation has become the concept which organizes and makes sense of the source and evolution of the universe we live in, including the presence of humanity. Evolution is the method of choice for the Creator and is the reason why creation was not a single and initial event but a continuous and creative process. This paradigm is investigated in this book.
For most of human history, the physical universe itself suggested that there were many gods and Christianity has been repeating ancient stories and medieval conclusions. Many find this attractive while others, especially the young, are turned away. Today we have the advantage of vast new understandings and insights that modern science has given us and that helps us put what God has done into perspective. After all, what we see in the universe is reality and if God is also a reality, then there can be no disagreement between the two.
The main thing God did was create a universe and by better understanding that we can begin to see that we are made to God’s image and likeness. What we need is not orthodox dogmas but reasonable theories and pastoral sensitivity.
